From the start, director of the Escuela Superior de Música del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA) Master Cuauhtémoc Rivera Guzman showed great interest in increasing the level the students’ music training. Accordingly, he made it a priority to focus on the earliest courses and, more specifically, the music reading subject. Thus, Professor Germán Romero was invited to offer the seminar To a Holistic Music Education Model, where contents of the subject were updated and objectively and thoroughly revised. This opened a window to the research of new music teaching tools. Later, Romero was appointed coordinator of the Proyecto de Renovación Curricular de Solfeo y Entrenamiento Auditivo, which aims, among other things, to the generation of didactical materials for the application of the pedagogical strategies that were presented. This book is the first of a number of volumes, an ambitious project aiming to cover the needs in the auditory training in the music reading school subject.
It is also a tangible result which includes aspects involved in the listening of music, and which aims to have a positive effect on the education and future professional development of children.
From the book’s prologue.La clasificación del nivel de una partitura normalmente viene determinado por el grado de dificultad técnica del instrumento o voz. En los casos de obras para formaciones instrumentales diversas, orquestales, vocales, etc. el nivel se determina atendiendo a la complejidad general de la obra, no a la de sus instrumentos en particular.
