I would like to contribute, through this piano book, ideas and materials for arranging classes in an open way, not hinging on reading, since the child learns to play before learning to read. Ordering the book in teaching units provides milestones for the various aspects worked on in the units: improvisation, reading, interpreting music with the teacher, finding one´s way around the keyboard, exercises etc. Two stories with music are also added, and they can be staged in performances. The idea is to make music using just a few ingredients, prompting feelings with the help of a story. My intention was to produce a collection in which expression is always present, and shared by teacher and student alike.
Aside from the approaches put forward in the book, it is taken for granted that the teacher will supply all necessary explanations for new items introduced, and add in other pieces, variations or exercises, in line with the needs of each particular student. Inventing, improvising and learning by heart are good things, enabling more 'pianisms' to be used (pedal, characters, more varied rhythms, leaps etc.) than in the pieces, where the student´s limited reading capacity hinders such use. By playing along as well in piano-four-hands, the teacher can do a lot to encourage musicality, encouraging the student through richer sonorities.
