Manuel Néstor Ferro
Born in La Habana, Cuba, on February 26th 1957, Manuel Néstor Ferro emigrated to the United States of America, where he grew up and received his education. He has a degree in Music and Psychology of the University of Miami, where he studied music theory and composition with great teachers such as Dr. Denis Kam and Dr. Paul Wilson, an authority in twentieth century music, the author of an acclaimed book on Béla Bartók’s music and a great influence on Ferro, for instance on his music for piano solo. Ferro recently completed his studies with the piano virtuoso Kemal Gekic and the composition teacher Dr. Kristine Burns of the Florida International University.
His multifaceted career as a composer also includes the genre of musical theatre, where he has worked as a pianist, conductor, music director and arrangements composer in musicals like “Godspell”, “Grease”, “So Long 174th Street”, “Guys and Dolls”, “Runaways”, “A Musical Revue” and “Apple City Folly”. His musical “The Bomb: A Modern Musical” was performed by the Los Angeles “The Sharon Faber Agency”.
His works, which cover almost all genres, include pieces for chamber music, piano, flute and violin solo, as well as a symphony in E minor, which has been performed by orchestras such as “The Alhambra Orchestra” (U.S.A.) or the “Sinfonia of Cambridge” (UK) and acclaimed by both, audience and musicians. Ferro’s works have been performed during the last ten years within the American Society of Composers’ concerts.
