El planeta del mar inventat was first performed in Terrrasa in June 1999 on the occasion of the IPSI School's closure concert of the school year. The piece has a lighter character than the other two cantatas by Jordi-Lluís Rigol released by DINSIC (El País de la No-memòria and On és la música'), so that we can say that its musical language resembles more the one used in musicals. Sometimes, however, the character of some of its pieces is quite dramatic and requires both a highly qualified children's choir and a serious and in depth look at phrasing and singing technique. Ideally, this piece should be interpreted at the age of nine or ten years and the number of interpreters should not lie under thirty, provided that we are talking about a qualified choir. Whenever the indication 'small choir' appears, it will mean that we have to reduce the dimensions of our choir considerably.
This cantata is meant to be interpreted by a jazz trio, i.e. piano, drums and double bass.
