UNUSUAL PALAUSince that rigorous article from 1962 by David Mackay about the
Palau
de la Música, published at '
Cuadernos de Arquitectura', the bibliography about the greatest work of Domènech i Montaner has notably increased from an aesthetical and historical point of view.
Unlike the works published until now, this piece discusses the
Palau from an angle unknown by the man in the street.
The first part, which comprises the period from the foundation of the
Orfeó
Català until the inauguration of the remodelling of the
Palau in 1989, mostly consists in the written references comprised in the entity's ceremony book and various archives.
The second part is composed by the passed on information by the ones actually in constant contact with the public. The daily routine, with all its surprises ' for instance at the reception desk, the box office and the guided tours service, that, whilst in contact with a large and heterogeneous public, provide a variegated and diverse outlook, in which one can find confidence, confusion, the hilarious sense of many queries (which sometimes are incredible!), country consciousness, language pride and confusion of time and space.
It is thus a friendly look at the daily life of the
Palau, without any sociological pretensions, although it contains some allusions, when appropriate.
