If we compare learning to play the drums with learning a language, learning a language only by listening to it, imitating and repeating is much more difficult than doing so based on a method. Both are different types of languages with different rules and patterns. Therefore, adults find them much easier to acquire after learning easy, basic theoretical concepts. We need to reorganise our study of drum playing and to understand what we are playing and what we want to play.
This book provides information used by the great teachers of the instrument, and contains basic gamified concepts. It is meant for students with none or little knowledge of music reading. There is no reference to position, grips, etc.
Using this method in particular, and learning to play the drums in general requires understanding that sound is a physical phenomenon resulting of vibration. Therefore, our grip must NEVER be tight, since that pressure would stop the vibration. Our drumsticks need be an extension of our arms and hands. All our fingers need to touch the drumstick to properly convey our sound and our weight.
