Alfons Reverté i Casas
He was born in Barcelona in 1967. His family members were already musicians, so he began his studies of solmization and piano with his mother. He also studied clarinet under the conduction of his father, Alfons Reverté Tomàs. He graduated in the Conservatori Superior de Música of Barcelona in the specialties of Clarinet, Solmization, Harmony, Composition, Instrumentation and Orchestra Conduction. At the same time, he studied Law in the University of Barcelona. He continued his orchestra conduction studies in England for four years, following the courses taught by George Hurst (head of the Conduction Department of the Royal Academy of Music of London). He has also worked in England with Lawrence Leonard, Robert Houlihan, R. Saglimbeni and Michael Rose.
In 1985 he became part, through competitive examinations, of the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Mediterranée. He played with this orchestra in several concerts, including the festivals d'Ais of Provença and Salzburg. In the 1985-86 season, he played as Soloist Bass Clarinet of the Municipal Band of Barcelona. He was also a member of the Orfeó Català for five years, during which time he was extensively trained in the use of voice.
In 1986 he won, by competitive examinations, the position of Clarinet Bass-Clarinet of the Symphonic Orchestra of Barcelona and National of Catalonia, with which he toured throughout Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Czechoslovakia. He has played in auditoriums as prestigious as the Musikverein of Vienna, the Shauspielhaus of Berlin or the Gewandhaus of Leipzig. He has played in several orchestras as a soloist and has interpreted the concert 'Concert per a corno di bassetto' of J. Backofen in the festival Grec 93 and the concert, also per a corno di bassetto, of A. Rolla with the Orquesta de Cambra del Reial Cercle Artístic (Artistic Royal Circle Chamber Orchestra). Recently, he debuted in the OBC's season the Concert for Bass Clarinet 'Blue Mosaics' that had been dedicated to him by the North-American composer Robert Patterson.
His activities in the field of the chamber music have brought him to play with assiduity in the cycle Soloists of the OBC in the Saló de Cent as a clarinetist and as a conductor. He is also member of the Quartet de Clarinets of Barcelona and of the Quintet de Fustes Aulos. He has played on several occasions for the radio and television and also for the Harmonia Mundi and Ars Harmònica firms.
Since 1992, he has been the conductor of the orchestras of the Centre d'Educació Musical Diaula (String, Woodwind and Symphonic). He has played with them in concerts in France, Belgium, Germany and Hungary. This year, he presented with them the third stable cycle of concerts, after finishing with great success during the past years. He has also played several interpretations such as 'Carmina Burana' of C. Orff in the Palau de la Música Catalana (Catalan Music Palace) together with the Cor Jove (Young Choir) of the Orfeó Català or the 'Magnificat' of John Rutter in the Auditorium of Barcelona. He is currently conductor of the Jove Orquestra Municipal de la Garriga and professor of different courses of chamber music and orchestral practice.
Among his most recent pedagogic projects is the publication of a collection of orchestral repertory adapted to study at different musical levels.
He has conducted the OBC and the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès in several Catalan locations as well as in the Palau de la Música and in the Auditorium of Barcelona. For the past four years, he has been conducting the Orquestra del Gran Teatre del Liceu in the Palau de la Música Catalana in the cycle of auditions 'Les Escoles al Palau', with a program addressed to the students of secondary focused on the Classics of the XX Century.
