CUARTETO DE CORDA (STRING QUARTET) was composed in 2007 for the Via Stellae festival and premiered by Grupo Instrumental Siglo XX (members of the Galicia Symphony Orchestra), directed by the Albanian violinist Florian Vlashi. The most notable aspect of this work is, without doubt, the selection of its three movements: a pasodoble, a blues and a samba. The composer wanted to give a classical chamber form, in order, without abandoning the sonatastructure, to explore other avenues of musical expression. It is a quartet written in the 21st century and it is difficult for a composer of this time to find interesting models that will prove attractive to the performers. Naturally we are not dealing in the strictest sense with either a pasodoble, or a blues or a samba. This is but a costume that dresses the work in both a playful and creative manner.
